Prefers full sun, average moisture and well-drained soil. Tolerates a wide variety of soil conditions including chalky, loamy and sandy soils. Water plants during dry spells initially but once established they are drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to prevent any unwanted self-seeding or leave them for winter interest and seed for birds. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring. Cover plants with mulch or evergreen boughs in winter to protect the roots and crown.

Common Name: Sea Holly
Upright perennial with a clumping-habit and branched stems. Spiny, thistle-like green to blue-green foliage. Compound, globe-shaped, blue-grey flowers surrounded by a spiky, metallic blue bract. Blooms early to late summer. Great for mixed borders, rock gardens and wildflower gardens. It is an interesting dried flower for arrangements.
